It has come time to close our doors in order for the construction to move ahead. Although we are not open to the public we are still here working so you can drop your items in the book drop and we will check it a couple of times a day. Also during the month of February we will have the Book Cellar open from 12 to 4 Monday through Friday. You can come in and take as many books as you want from down there.

Genealogy is the study of families and the tracing of their lineage and history. EMCL has a growing collection of genealogy books that will help the novice as well as the experienced to further their research. The Sleuth for Genealogists. Strategies for More Successful Family History is a book that is “user friendly”.   This book has tips, strategies, and resources for the all genealogists to help further your research. Unpuzzling Your Past is a how to book for those researching their family tree. It has many reproducible forms for those just beginning and for those who are extending their research. The Source: A Guidebook of American Genealogy is often referred to as “the genealogist’s bible”.  This book is a great instructional tool for the beginner as well as the experienced. This book includes many helpful hints for getting the most out of your information. Ancestry’s Red Book: American State, County & Town Sources, Third Revised Edition is a book that has records and holdings for every county in the U.S. This book also has excellent maps to help further your research. Google Your Family Tree a new book to EMCL will help tap into many free online services. This book will help you decide what is relevant and what is not and how to sift through all the information on the net! The American Census Handbook is a wealth of information to help understand the federal census’ up to and including 1920. The text is arranged in three sections: by year, subjects, and geography.  It is well worth a look!  Another good genealogy resource is  The Genealogy Sourcebook is a wealth of information that will encourage research via phone, mail, the Internet, or hired professionals. Sometimes, it just takes a little information to find a lot of information. These books are all important in deciphering the search for your family tree.

In addition to the previously mentioned books, EMCL also subscribes to Family Chronicle and Family Tree - two current and popular genealogy magazines. These two magazines are very user friendly and would be good resources for both beginners and seasoned genealogists. Back issues are available for check out. EMCL subscribes to Ancestry.com and is available for the public to use. We have several local family histories in our collection also.  Morgan County Colorado Tombstone & Burial Records is another excellent source of local history. EMCL also has a copy of Pat Oestman’s latest book Marriage, Births, death & other items of Interest from the Brush Tribune 3 Feb1899 through 29 Dec 1905. The Morgan County Genealogical Society and the Brush Tribune are selling a copy of this book for $15.00 if you are interested in obtaining a copy to further your local research. The Genealogy Society is holding their monthly meetings at the Immanuel Congregational Church, 209 Everett, Brush, CO on the third Monday of each month at 6:30 PM.

Due to the expansion/remodeling project EMCL will be closed until further notice beginning Wednesday, Jan.27. 2009. We will only answer the phone until Feb 3, 2010 and this article will only appear once a month. Therefore , please keep an eye out for EMCL news!
